Gender and Gamers, Lizardmen, and Screaming into the Enemy's Mind

Lots to talk about today gentle readers! The last thing, listed first in the title, is the heaviest so if you aren't up for heavy then please feel free to skip that part. I won't be offended. Also if you read that part and wish to comment then feel free but please be aware this is not a public forum and I do take action against obviously offensive commenting (I have done so in the past).

First lets talk about some PSYCHIC SHRIEK goodness. Last weekend I played a great game of Ultramarines vs. Dark Angels/Imperial Knight and it was a good game all the way around. During the play of the game I had a Librarian with Psychic Shriek and a conversation came up between my opponent and I regarding the application of the power. If you are familiar with the debate then what i'm about to say will make sense, otherwise you should skip to the picture ahead. In short I think that the power clearly should not require a to-hit roll. I feel this way because it does not inflict any hits, it only inflicts wounds. While it does not use a template it is similar to one in that fact that templates do not require to hit rolls either. They simply inflict hits. I understand that some player point to text that says witch fire powers are like shooting attacks but in that same paragraph it also states that this classification of powers may not require to-hit rolls. At mi casa this means that PS will not require a roll to hit. If you are playing at my battlefield and you want to do that I won't stop you and if I am at your house and you want me to roll to hit I will do so.

Now for something exciting!

This is my recently completed Saurus Scar-Vetaran "Krok'Tan". I have two SSV's in my Lizardmen collection and the other is on Cold One. This guy will lead my many strong Saurus Warriors into battle and may at times act as General in the event that the Slann Mage-Priest is unavailable. This is an older piece I have wanted for a long time and am very happy to get! My wife gave it to me for Christmas and I loved adding it to my collection.

Finally I have a serious issue to weigh in on so if you wish you may skip from here on out. That being said I wanted to say my peace about sexism in the gaming community. It's become apparent that there is a problem with some of the men in our community and their need to oppress or attack women who enter the community. I cannot abide this. It is offensive and disgusting. The very nature of our community is one of acceptance and inclusion and to see some in our group try to marginalize a group is just not going to fly with me and it shouldn't fly with you. I can say I don't believe there is a man in the group of players I play with, which is about 30, that would talk down to a woman or insult her for being part of our community. I can promise you that if one of them did I'd kick his ass so hard he'd never roll a dice again. As a man within the gaming community I encourage all other men to root out this infection and excise it. We must represent ourselves well, we cannot let what is likely a very small percentage of our community to be the part of our community that gets the most press. There are many fund raisers and community projects we partake of but that is not what gains the most attention. Instead we are burdened with the ignorant and the hateful. Their doxxing and anonymous cowardly attacks gaining coverage. Where one foul mouthed child gains national coverage the dozens that raise thousands for charity goes unheeded. The only way to effectively improve this situation is direct action. I encourage all of you to turn to anyone who expresses such behavior and say, "No man, that isn't happening here." and discourage them. I have always taken that stance and I am sure many of you reading this are of the same mind, but I believe that many times it goes unnoticed or unrecognized. Take the time out to talk to your peers about it and to talk to any shop owners or organizers. We want to enrich our community not be branded as sexist assholes. This is on us, let us take command and lead a good charge!
